Where We Belong

Coming in 2027

Every regional town carries stories that have never been written down. Stories of floods, fires and harvests, of families who stayed and families who left, of work and community and the particular light on a particular road at the end of a particular day. These stories belong to the people who lived them — and they deserve to be preserved.

Where We Belong is a community writing initiative bringing professional author and writing facilitator Vanessa McKay directly into regional Western Australian towns for one-day storytelling workshops. Participants are guided through the craft of life writing, how to find their story, how to shape it, how to give it the detail and honesty that makes it live on the page.

After the workshop, participants work with Vanessa in a gentle editorial exchange, refining their piece until it’s something they’re proud of. The result is an annual collection — a beautifully produced anthology of voices from across regional WA, with a copy presented to every contributor and donated to their local library, where it will be available for generations to come.

Register your interest and join Vanessa for this one-day community writing workshop in regional WA towns — helping everyday people write and preserve their personal stories of place, history, and belonging. Stories are edited and compiled into an annual anthology, with copies gifted to every contributor and their local library.
